“"Missing the Point of Salvation"”

Ephesians 2:4

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy…

Thoughts for Today:

In Ephesians 2:3, Paul described the impossible and hopeless condition of humanity ("...gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts...by nature deserving of wrath"). Fortunately, God didn't stop there.

Every single person and situation is hopeless without God. "But" He intervened. We now have a solution to everything through Christ. So regardless of how bad a particular predicament may seem to our mortal minds, we need to always remember: "but God". He is always the correct solution to any problem we may encounter.

Our passage today also reveals another important insight for us to consider: God's motivation in providing salvation for us. His action wasn't the result of pity, obligation or even a sense of responsibility as our Creator. Rather, God's motivation was simply because of love. When we accept God's gift of salvation we are really accepting God's great love for us. Therefore, anyone who prays to receive Christ only to avoid punishment for sin -- and doesn't acknowledge, receive and experience God's love -- is missing the whole point of salvation.

Questions to Ponder:

Have you ever found yourself in a hopeless situation that only seemed to get worse? Jesus is able to bring hope, resolution and restoration into any circumstance. He is our "hope of glory," both in the present and for all of eternity. Only Jesus can turn hate to love, confusion into clarity, and certain defeat into miraculous victory. Is your trust placed in Him alone?
