“Time to Get Going Again”

Romans 15:23a

But now that there is no more place for me to work in these regions...

Thoughts for Today:

In our passage today, Paul says something that really strikes me as strange, "there is no more place for me to work in these regions". I used to think that it might have become too dangerous for him to work in those areas. Perhaps he was looking toward the frontier as a safer option. Certainly not everyone had been saved, so why did Paul think there was no more room for him?

I have since come to believe that Paul -- including the other Apostles, and evangelists -- had already taken the Word throughout the region. It's not so much that everyone was a believer, but most had heard the Gospel. However, this was not the case in the farthest reaches of the Roman Empire. It was the area God uniquely called Paul toward. And he longed to go. That's why there was no room for him -- Paul was an evangelist -- and he needed new areas to express God's calling.

Questions to Ponder:

I hear eagerness in Paul's words. He's ready to move on. Why? Because it is the way God made him. God gave him an evangelist's heart, and when he is not able to do his job, then he knows it's time to get going again. It's a great lesson for us all. Have you reached a time to get going in ministry again? To what has God called you?
