“"Is the Light Fading Away?"”

2 Corinthians 3:13

We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away.

Thoughts for Today:

Exodus 34:30 tells us the reason Moses first placed a veil over his face: "When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him." However, in our passage today, Paul explains that Moses left the veil in place -- even as the glory faded -- so no one would notice.

It is a great illustration of the difference between the Old Testament Law and the New Covenant. The veil kept the Israelites from gazing upon the glory of God, but it also symbolized how the Law prevented them from experiencing the fullness of God's love. In contrast to Moses, Jesus shows us the full glory of God through His demonstration of perfect love. (1 John 4:10: "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.")

Sometimes we might be able to keep our rules and regulations for a day, a week, even a season or two. And we will shine for a while. We can say to our family and friends, "Look at me. See how well I'm doing!" But without Jesus at our center, without His light as our source, the glow will invariably fade, and we'll be right back to where we started. Why? Because we're sinners and we desperately need a Savior.

Questions to Ponder:

Have you just been going through the motions in your walk with Christ lately? Have you lost a little of the glow, the brightness, or the joy? Return to Him now. Ask Him to re-ignite your life. Don't allow the concerns, worries and troubles of this world to extinguish your light!
